History of Ilex

1974 - Ilex Stores bought by Peter Gammon after leaving High Wycombe where he worked as a branch manager for Calor Gas. Peter served an apprenticeship with British Gas and was already a time served engineer.

1975 - Ilex Stores Gas Installers - Peter started offering gas fitting services as well as Calor Gas deliveries to the local area

1984 - Peter's son Jason joins the business after leaving school. Jason serves his apprenticeship. The European Holly (Ilex aquifolium) leaves and fruitshop soon after is converted from a general store to a gas showroom.

1994 - Jason leaves the business to gain further experience in the heating trade including oil and air-conditioning services.

2000 - Jason rejoins Ilex to continue the family business

2004 - Peter retires and hands over the business to Jason. Who subsequently takes on James Evans as an apprentice engineer.


2006 - Ilex heating accept an invitation from leading British boiler manufacturer Worcester Bosch to join their approved installer scheme.

2007 – In response to the growing need to reduce the negative impact of carbon dioxide on the environment Ilex introduces solar hot water services to the portfolio of products.

James completes his three year apprenticeship and becomes a registered gas operative and fully qualified Plumbing & Heating Engineer.

2008 – To reflect the increased “Green” credentials the company is re-branded “Ilex Eco Heating Systems” with new and dynamic image designed to punctuate the exciting new opportunities for company and customer.

Ilex become a “Service Partner” for Worcester Bosch enabling warranty repair work to be carried out quickly and efficiently.
